Our voice messaging system works with touch tone handsets so the end user can choose to listen or reject a call, and acknowledge or re-play it.

Touch tones, or Dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) can be disabled in-call on some handsets which may mean they’re unable to use numbered menu systems. These are different to keypad tones which makes an audible beep when the keypad is pressed. You can have keypad tones on but DTMF switched off.

The easiest way to test this is to call a landline from your mobile phone and get someone to listen while you press the buttons on your keypad. If the other person can hear the beeps as you press the buttons, then DTMF is enabled.

If you don’t have DTMF enabled and you’re sent a voice SMS, you may not be able to accept the message which will put this into the retry process.
